Beauty mistakes we all make that are easy to avoid

Everything must start by creating a skincare routine and maintaining it over time, adapting it to each skin type and its needs.

However, even though we have a wide range of products at our disposal, we make many mistakes in our habits that will undermine the effectiveness of treatments.

From skipping daily SPF or forgetting eye cream. And let's not even talk about washing makeup brushes as often as we should. Or washing our pillowcases more often if we have acne.

What if it turns out that you are the one sabotaging your own skin?

The good news is that most of these beauty problems are easily solved. Don't torture yourself thinking about what you're doing wrong. If they're called common mistakes, it's because they are just that: common.

Sometimes we act on intuition or out of laziness, and it's very likely we're making mistakes and will end up paying dearly for them in the future. So take note of the mistakes you'll never make again. 😉

From now on, your skincare will be as perfect as you want your skin to be.

NOT WASHING YOUR HANDS BEFORE STARTING YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE

Our hands are the primary recipients of our bacteria and other pathogenic microbes: when we cover our mouths when coughing, when we touch animals or objects, when we handle money, when we go outside, etc. If we don't wash our hands before touching our face, all this dirt and germs will come into contact with our skin and can cause problems such as acne or other imbalances.

NOT HAVING A TOWEL EXCLUSIVELY FOR YOUR FACE

Do you use the same towel for your face and body? Wrong! Do you share a towel? Wrong! Not having a towel just for your face could be ruining your facial routine.

You should have one towel for your face and another for the rest of your body, and they should be individual. That is, each person should have their own, because everyone has their own microflora.

DO NOT WASH TOWELS OFTEN

Since bath towels are damp most of the time, they are the perfect breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria and fungi. If experts advise changing sheets once a week, imagine how much better it is for towels. Ideally, use a new one every two days and keep it as dry as possible.

DO NOT WASH YOUR FACE MORNING AND NIGHT

How many times do you clean your face?

Cleaning your face too much or too little is detrimental to your routine.

Facial cleansing is a fundamental step because it helps eliminate skin cells that physiologically shed daily, reduces excess sebum and sweat from the skin's surface, eliminates substances from environmental pollution, contributes to the proper absorption of substances applied to the skin, and helps strengthen the skin barrier.

Good reasons. And this cleansing is essential, whether you wear makeup or not.

Washing your face twice a day is the perfect balance.

What's the first thing you learn when you start taking care of your skin and following the beauty commandments? That removing makeup and/or cleansing your face is the foundation of any treatment because cell regeneration occurs at night. In addition, we must remove all unwanted substances accumulated throughout the day and apply products to skin free of impurities to improve their effectiveness.

And this step, which we often overlook as vitally important, is the holy grail for beautiful, radiant skin.

Now, in the morning we have to repeat this cleansing. And water alone isn't enough.

In the morning, we need this step to apply our daily products to clean skin. At night, our skin performs many vital functions while we sleep, resulting in sweat and toxins coming to the surface. We also need to remove any serum or cream we applied the night before.

DO NOT APPLY SUNSCREEN 365 DAYS A YEAR

It's quite common to relegate the use of sunscreen to summer, and even only to the hottest days at the beach, but the truth is that our skin needs that protection every day.

And not just to protect your skin from burns. Sunscreen is your best anti-aging treatment!!!

Your beauty routine may include moisturizers, antioxidants, and other active ingredients, but if you don't add sunscreen, damage and photoaging will be inevitable (and will appear much earlier).

If there's one thing that should become a beauty mantra, it's the NEED (yes, in capital letters) to use sunscreen daily, all year round.

In fact, if you could only use one cream a day, this would be the one.

By applying sunscreen daily, we have almost done 80% of everything we need to do to prevent aging.

It's so essential because ultraviolet radiation is the most common cause of skin damage. Not only does it cause dark spots, precancerous lesions, and skin cancer, but UVA (which is more penetrating) damages the collagen and elastin in the dermis, leading to wrinkles, thinning of the skin, and visible capillaries in sun-exposed areas.

Does all this mean that if we don't use sunscreen, the rest of the treatments we apply daily won't be of any use?

More or less. Let's just say we're missing the main ingredient.

But, even if you've internalized the use of sunscreen, there are parts of the body that are left unprotected without us realizing it, like our hands.

Hands reveal a person's age very well.

Our skin is subjected to a multitude of aggressions, and if we add bad practices to this, the damage will be irreversible.

However, now that you have the essentials clear, you are ready to reformulate your routine if necessary and get the most out of your treatment and your skin without making mistakes.
